Pause Arms Sales to Nigeria - BRGIE Rallies US Lawmakers in Washington D.C. for Biafra Recognition.

Washington, DC--The Acting Prime Minister (APM) of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Ogechukwu Nkere, rallied United States of America lawmakers in Washington on recognition of Biafra Independence. APM Nkere has assumed the active management of the BRGIE, following the conviction of its Prime Minister Simon Ekpa in Finland.

During the first half of September 2025, APM Ogechukwu Nkere met with Congressman Brian Mast (R-FL), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, and Congresswoman Lamonica McIver (D-NJ). In addition, APM Nkere met with Ambassador Tibor Nagy, longtime senior State Department official and diplomat with extensive postings in Africa.

In his meetings, APM Nkere encouraged U.S. strategic engagement with BRGIE on the Biafra issue, as well as encouraging the US Congress to pause arms sales to Nigeria. APM Nkere highlighted Nigeria’s human rights abuses against Biafrans, including the kidnapping of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, and recommended that the US secure his release. APM Nkere also sought guidance as to what could be done by US government in addressing Finland’s persecution and conviction of Simon Ekpa.
