  • François Duvalier

    Haitian President - 1969

“From the point of view of international law as such, and account being taken of such norms as are generally agreed upon, I am of the opinion that Biafra fulfils the essential conditions to constitute a nation, namely: a material element, the territory and more especially, a human element: the population. The said human element is united by race, religion, language, history, a set of laws. It is, furthermore, consolidated by the moral unity and the common will of Biafrans to group themselves under one banner.”

  • Julius Nyerere

“What right have we, in the name of unity, to refuse to recognize the fact of Biafra? for years, the people of that state struggled to maintain unity with the other people in the Federation of Nigeria”

  • Omar Bongo

    President of Gabon - 1968

“We the Gabonese recognized Biafra. Biafra is alive. Why do we Gabonese recognize Biafra? one, it's purely the goals of humanity and again because we know that Nigerian federation is a fraud and it reflects no bases.”

  • Nina Simone

    Musician

“I was performing at the Village Gate for a benefit for Biafra…I was doing my best to support them because they were black and they were my brothers and sisters. And they were fighting for their freedom against the same kind of oppression we were fighting against in America.”

  • Mohammad Ali

    Heavy Weight Boxing Champion

The Biafrans have been fighting against an imperialist power that is backed by the United States government. The people of the United States must unite with the people of Biafra and all oppressed people around the world to fight against imperialism and colonialism.

  • Huey Newton

    Activist

“The people of Biafra are fighting for the right to determine their own future, to be free of exploitation and oppression. Their struggle is our struggle, for we are fighting against the same enemies of human freedom and dignity.”

  • August Harvey Martin

American pilot and Tuskegee Airman Captain Martin undertook numerous humanitarian aid flights to Africa in his spare time and was part of the Biafran airlift operations.
