BRGIE fully concur with this position and no serious or civilized nation permits its head of government to rule from incarceration.
To do so would undermine our legitimacy and render our government ineffective in all affairs going forward to the Recognitions and restoration of Biafra.
Following the detention of Prime Minister Simon Ekpa Njoku by the Government of Finland at the mandates of Nigeria/European Commision, Hon. Nkere had assumed the role of de facto leader of BRGIE and Acting Prime Minister in December 2024 on a duly elected democratic process. For more than a year, the current cabinet and the APM have responsibly administered the affairs of the government.
In September 2025, Prime Minister Ekpa was convicted by a Finnish court and sentenced to six years in prison.
Under these circumstances, a transition in leadership has become imperative, both necessary and unavoidable.
According to Biafra Republic Government in Exile Cabinet meeting transmitted live on air on the 14th of january 2026, conducted a democratic election to select a new Prime Minister. Having gone through series of electoral processes, Hon. Nkere emerged as the winner of the election and the BRGIE Cabinet voted Nkere into Office with 50 YES votes and 0 NO votes.

2026 as Prime Minister of BRGIE, Nkere with his entire cabinet will deliver greater results for Biafra people.
